To coincide, more or less, with the 80th anniversary of the global publication of Antoine de Saint-Exupéry’s masterpiece, The Little Prince, a rally up in the skies has been organized between Toulouse and southern Morocco in tribute to the pilot.
The Little Prince, a book that now sells 400,000 copies every year in France alone, was published 80 years ago, on April 6, 1943. To honor this anniversary properly, a tribute is being paid to its author, Antoine de Saint-Exupéry, with the second edition of a rally (organized by the Air Aventures association) linking the pink city of Toulouse to Tarfaya-Cap Juby in Morocco, where the “father” of The Little Prince was a station manager during Aéropostale’s heyday.
On May 18, 2023 (activities for the event will start the day before), around fifteen crews will take off from the Toulouse-Lasbordes airfield to reach southern Morocco in ten days, with the support of the Antoine de Saint-Exupéry Youth Foundation.
All along the route of this rally, activities will take place in France, Spain and Morocco, including letter exchanges, projections, tree planting, transport of astronomy equipment to the “Sharifian Empire,” artistic performances on the desert sand, educational workshops, and more.
In short, it’s a wonderful tribute to the French legend of both aviation and literature, who disappeared in July 1944 in the Mediterranean Sea!
