1951. The Cold War is only just beginning, against the backdrop of a nascent nuclear arms race. Stalin is still ruling the USSR with an iron fist, Truman is in charge in the USA… That’s the situation when a plane, carrying a high-ranking officer as well as four engineers specialized in nuclear energy, goes down off the coast of Ireland. But when the search and rescue teams arrive on the scene following reports of an aircraft floating in the ocean, there is no trace of the aircraft in question – or its passengers. And no lifeboats either…
Some years later, photos taken in a Soviet base suggest that perhaps the four scientists are indeed alive. America’s new President, Dwight Eisenhower, and the CIA decide to send a recon mission to help uncover the truth… Buck Danny, accompanied by Tucson and Tumbler, gets the call for the mission, for which he’ll fly the Rapier, a revolutionary aircraft capable of flying at three times the speed of sound – but still at an experimental stage…
The three partners are going to have to work in troubled waters for this mission, which is equally special as it is secret – especially when it seems that an old acquaintance of Buck Danny’s might be amongst the kidnapped scientists. High-speed flying, diplomacy, and espionage… This new Buck Danny story looks to be one of the best yet!
