His mission was to extend the Aéropostale route to Patagonia, and he was inspired by the places and conditions of his journeys (flying at night and in strong winds) to work on writing “Vol de Nuit” [Night Flight]. All this was happening as the economic crisis of 1929 was about to hit the world, severely affecting Aéropostale in its wake.
