An epic story just like we like them! “Beyond the Clouds” is being republished as a complete collection and follows the friendship, then open rivalry, between two pilots during the 1930s.
We are in 1933, in the heart of the Andes in South America. A French pilot for the French airmail service, Pierre, meets an American pilot, Allan, who saved his life by changing the course of his aircraft to pull Pierre out of his burning plane. With both of them in love with speed and acrobatics, the two men form a true friendship.
1935. During a party in France, Pierre, who has become a pilot for the aircraft manufacturer Caudron, introduces his fiancée, a French actress called Marie, to Allan, who now works in the film-making industry. The American pilot immediately falls in love with her. The evening quickly gets out of control. Against a backdrop of rivalry, the two pilots engage in aerial acrobatics in the middle of the night, above the City of Light. Punished for his escapades, Pierre returns to the United States in the hope of finding Marie, whose dream is to become a film star on the other side of the Atlantic…
The years go by… Pierre, who has become a pilot for an acrobatics company in the country of Uncle Sam, finds out that the war of 1939-1945 has just broken out. He decides to stand alongside the Allies. However, Allan, with whom the rivalry has exacerbated, also decides to go and fight in Europe. Their paths will cross once again…
Here, the two volumes of the comic book are brought together: “Duels” and “Combats”. And, as always, with Romain Hugault providing the illustrations, the aerial scenes are spectacular!
