Published by the Belgian Mirage 5 Pilots Association (MPA), “Pictorial Story of the Mirages M5 B of the Belgian Air Force” is a portfolio dedicated to this legendary Dassault aircraft.
Featuring over 500 beautiful photos, including many new ones, 106 Mirage M5B aircraft, 330 names of crew commanders or pilots, and more. After Mirage M5B, which was released a few years ago, the authors have gone the extra mile with the publication of this book, which meticulously traces the life of the Mirage 5 in the Belgian Air Force.
Chosen by the Belgian army in 1968 to replace its F-84F Thunderstreak and RF-84F Thunderflash aircraft, this great success for Dassault (the Mirage 5 was acquired by Argentina, Pakistan, Peru, and others) is paid a vibrant tribute here. Month after month, from 1970 to 1994, the service life of all 106 Mirage 5 aircraft in the Belgian Army was closely examined, with each aircraft being assigned a text, a photograph, a note on the maintenance operations performed and any associated anecdotes.
This limited edition is a collector’s item for fans of this legendary aircraft, and it also offers a focus on a two-seater Mirage with a unique destiny. The aircraft in question, a Mirage 5 BD 09 returned “home” in 2018 after spending twenty years in a hangar in France and is maintained by enthusiasts at the former Brustem air base, in the province of Limburg. Indeed, there is a long history between Belgium and the Mirage 5!
