A grandson’s tribute of a man, Mathieu Lafaye, who fought for France in its darkest hours.

This book tells the story of a man, a vocation, and a conviction in the service of France. It is a collection of letters between aviator Mathieu Lafaye and his son Jacquie (the author’s father) written throughout his long and successful career as an aviator for France.

Mathieu Lafaye became an officer a few years prior to the Second World War and operated from Africa within the very first hours of the conflict, leading raids on Italy, fighting alongside the Allies during the North Africa landings in November 1942, and joining Squadron 347 Tunisie (Tunisia) – which was made up of Frenchmen trained by the Royal Air Force.

Once the hostilities of the Second World War came to an end, he became an instructor (notably training his son Jacquie) before dying while attempting a high-risk landing in Laos in 1953. Dear readers, this is his story…
