Hailed as heroes of World War II with countless operations to their name, the “Groupe Lorraine” was disbanded before joining the 30th Hunter Escadre of the French Air Force in Tours in 1953, as described in the first volume. Focusing on the period following World War II, author Mathieu Mounicq tells the story of this legendary group, whose achievements from 1939 to 1945 pale in comparison to the successes that would follow, most notably at the controls of the Mirage F1C at the height of the Cold War.

After being stationed in Agadir, Rabat (Morocco), Tours, Reims and finally Mont-de-Marsan today (after disbanding in 1994 and then reuniting in 2015). The 3/30 Lorraine, as they are currently known, have evolved into a Rafale multi-role squadron. They are still an integral part of the 30th Hunter Escadre of the French Air Force. In addition to protecting national territory and conducting large-scale air drills such as Volfa in early 2024, their current missions include surveillance of NATO’s eastern flank, i.e. the Baltic states of Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.
