Samin was appointed deputy technical director in 1970, and technical director in April 1981. His promotion to the position of technical general director in January 1987 came as recognition for his outstanding skills.
Jean Jacques Samin was born on May 5, 1926, in Marpent, a town in the French department of Nord.
After getting through primary and secondary school on scholarships, he pursued higher scientific studies in Paris’ Lycée Saint Louis.
He joined Ecole Nationale Supérieure d’Aéronautique, an aeronautical school, in October 1946, and graduated as an aeronautical engineer in 1949. After military service, he joined Avions Marcel Dassault’s engineering department in Saint Cloud in 1950. He served there for the rest of his career.
His keen technical mind and management skills promptly caught his superiors’ eyes and, in 1959, Samin was placed in charge of the design office working on the Mirage IV. His industriousness, methodical mind and skill at managing the teams of technicians working on this program, explain its categorical success.
His duties later stretched to encompass all the company’s fighter aircraft, spanning the Mirage G and G-8, Mirage F-1, Super-Étendard, Mirage 2000, Super Mirage 4000, Rafale A demonstration model and Rafale development program aircraft.

He died on August 24, 1991, as a result of a painful illness.
